My five year journey in Southville

It was the job fair in Philippine Normal University. I was this graduating student whose goal in mind was to waste no time, but get a job right away. I arrived in school earlier than expected despite the distance from Las Piñas to Manila. When I arrived at the Bonifacio Sibayan Hall, I saw my classmates busy chatting with each other - just sitting like there was no big event for the day - I wonder why they had not begun going around. What were they waiting for? As a class president, I gently reminded them this exact sentence:

"Wala ng hintay-hintayan!"

What I meant was I wanted them to start being independent; look around for possible job applications early without waiting for their friends to come.

Without any hesitation, I began to walk my feet to the venue and noticed that my target school was still preparing their booth.Meanwhile, there was this woman who was wearing purple and seemed ready to entertain applicants. I told myself,

"I think, it would not hurt me to try Southville first. I can just go there and take the interview as a practice."

All the while, I thought that it was just a practice. I just went there to shake the nervousness off me, but after a few minutes of interview, I was already given the date for my demo!

To cut this long story short, I came to Southville and endured all the mind boggling and tear jerking hiring process: the demo, interviews and examinations. I came to the school with five of us in the HR office, but when I finished at around 7pm, I was the only one left. Only to find out that I was the only one hired that day!

Truly, God had planned all these. Sometimes, we were given things we did not choose, because He wanted us to take a challenge that He knew we can survive. And so, my journey in Southville began...

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope, and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Southville embodies the 5 Cs: Character, Collaboration, Competence, Creativity and Commitment to Achieve.

Southville has the character.

She makes sure that every monarch shows responsibility, good relationship, humility, and respect.

Southville values collaboration.

She is a community composed of people of different nations where unity is never impossible.

Southville is competent.

She ensures that her children excel, not only locally, but also, internationally. She provides all that she has to build knowledge her children need.

Southville is creative.

She promotes appreciation of art in a world of black and white. She sees ideas on a blank page.

Southville commits to achieve.

She always sets goals and keeps track. She never fails to seek for improvement. She believes in kaizen (continuous improvement).

Now, ever wonder why I call her 'she?' It is because Southville is like a mom who would always want the best for her children.
